Stillwater Covered Bridge, Stillwater, PA
The Stillwater Covered Bridge is located on Big Fishing Creek in the Borough of Stillwater after which it was named. It can be found on Township Route 629 east of PA Route 487. It is a Burr Arch truss with a herringbone wood deck. It's length spans 168 feet. James McHenry built this bridge in 1849 for a cost of $1,124. McHenry's family was among the first to settle in the Stillwater area. Columbia County Commissioners, after the construction of a new steel bridge that bypassed the covered bridge, took over the Stillwater Covered Bridge and in 1959 and decided to keep and maintain the bridge for all time in memory of all the Columbia County Covered Bridges.
